2013 Climbing Celebration!

This has been a really good year for our new and past clients, our instructors and our organization.

Rewards

Couples, friends and families have come to Zen Climb to grow their relationships through climbing.  When I saw the video clip of Tyler proposing to Tanya at the summit of Mt. Bedfort (14205') on Oct. 5, 2013, I remembered their first climbing day with me in 2011: Tanya's perseverence and Tyler's aspiration. In 2012 they took the Gym to Crag: Top Rope Anchor Setting and Climbing course and were active in Zen Climbers meetup events.  Early this year, Tyler took the Traditional Lead Climbing course, advancing closer to realizing his aspiration.  Congratulations to Tanya and Tyler, and to all of you for having grown your relationship with someone or yourself through climbing in 2013!

Gifts

Let's give the gift of outdoor rock climbing skills development to those we care.

You can purchase a gift certificate for a specific course or for a specific dollar amount by following the instructions on this Gift web page: www.zenclimb.com/gift.html

You can also purchase a gift at a MEC store in the GTA with 10% discount during the following 2-hour periods:

Toronto Store, Dec. 8, 3-5pm
Burlington Store, Dec. 4, 7-9pm
London Store: Dec. 5, 6-8pm
Barrie Store: Dec. 12, 6-8pm

Zen Climb course graduates please come to the store to get your discount card at Zen Climb's desk in the store. (Or you can write a personal note with your full name and signature to a family or friend to ask them to come on your behalf.)

You can bring friends or relatives who plan to take Zen Climb course(s) to purchase a $15 deposit for any future course to be taken in 2014 at Zen Climb's desk in the store and receive the same discount card.

Presentations

Starting one hour before the above 2-hour periods, I will give a series of mini presentations on transitions from gym to crag, for top roping to sport and trad leading, to multi-pitch and alpine rock climbing.  For details of such presentations, please see this example: http://events.mec.ca/event/11722/adventure-from-indoor-rock-climbing-to-alpine-rock-ascents.

New Developments

As the Chief Instructor of Zen Climb, I recently completed a 10-day AMGA Rock Instructor Course that focuses on guiding in multi-pitch terrain.  Despite that I had previously taken similar courses with 3 different organizations, I still learned a lot.  As such I will make improvement to the Multi-pitch Climbing Techniques and the Improvised Self Rock Rescue courses for 2014.

Rattlesnake Point Conservation Area will have Zen Climb to conduct the rock climbing activity during its Fall Into Nature festival in 2014, since such a joint effort in the 2013 festival was a success.  This is a great way to try rock climbing outdoors with minimum commitment in time and money.  See details at Try Rock Climbing.

Youth Climbing Camp week will be July 28 - Aug. 1, 2014. In additiona to top rope anchor setting, rappelling and sport leading skills offered, traditional lead climbing skills will be offered as well.

Volunteering

Volunteering can be beneficial and rewarding.  If you're interested in helping out in the above MEC store discount and presentation events, or future meetup or other events, please let me know.  Thanks!
