Choose A Course

Q1: I have never climbed (indoor or outdoor) before.  Do you have something suitable for me?
A1:  You have three options: 1) attend one of our Try Rock Climbing event to climb just one route to have a taste of outdoor rock climbing; 2) attend our Introductory Outdoor Rock Climbing course to climb more; 3) attend our Introductory Rock Climbing and Rappelling course to experience two adventures in one day.
Q2: I have been top rope climbing indoor for quite a while and currently climb up to 5.10.  I'd like to become a self-sufficent outdoor climber.  Which course should I choose?
A2: The less risky approach is to take the Top Rope Anchor Setting course first, so you can practice climbing outdoors in top roping style without worrying about falling.  Also, this course covers more grounds risk management in outdoor climbing as it teaches you about tethering, using trees and natural rocks for anchors.

The bolder approach is to take the Sport Lead Climbing and Rappelling course.  It is riskier as you may fall a big distance, especially when you are new climbing on real rocks.  You will need to start at low-grade routes first to avoid falling. After the course, you should go back to your gym to take their lead test, and after passing the test, practice more lead climbing in the gym to get used to falling.  The advantage of being able to lead outdoors in the GTA is that you can access Mt. Nemo where top roping is not allowed.

Group Registration Discount Rates

Q1: Can I add one or more people to my group after I have paid for my booking?

A1: Yes.  Since your group is bigger, we will recalculate the total fee amount based on your new group discount rate.  You will need to pay the difference between the new total and the amount you have paid before.  Your group members can work out how to re-share the cost equally.

Q2: Can I get the group rate based on how many people attending the course on my course day?

A2. The group registration discount rate applies only when you register as a group and the size of your group registered.  Other people attending the course registered and paid the course separately. The registration discount is designed to encourage potential clients to spread the words of our courses among their contacts, so that they can form a group to register to save money.  Basically, they have done some networking themselves and earned their savings.

Q3: Can my group members pay separately for their share of the total fee?

A3: Conceptually your group needs to pay together as a group registration to quality for the group discount. If paying separately, it increases admin work on our side and it could pull us into a coordinating role for your group registration. Also, in the event of one member not paying, other paid members could only complete their registration at a higher person rate due to the difference in group discount rates, which could be an unwanted surprise to them.

Firefighter

Q1: My GF/BF/Partner/Child is a new firefighter and I wanted to see if you offered something that would be appropriate to their field. What would you recommend that would be recognized as a good course/certificate of training as a firefighter? (March 2022)

A1: We recommend the Cliff Rappel & Rappel Anchor Setup courses. After taking these two half-day courses which can be done in one day, they will be able to set up for rappel and rappel on their own.

Summer Camp

Q1: What are ages of, number of participants in a camp? What are their climbing / skill levels? What will the participants learn?

A1: Past participants are 12-15 years old. We usually had 3-5 participants per instructor for a week. Their climbing levels range from beginner to advanced. They all had little or no anchor setup skills.

In outdoor climbing, we often can set up one top rope to accommodate at least two routes. Often, a couple of feet left or right is a route of quite different level of difficulty. This helps is to accommodate the needs of both beginners and advanced climbers.

Participants can tell provide us a list of priority tasks they would like to accomplish through the camp, such as: 1) climbing as much as possible; 2) learning to set up rappel Anchors to rappel on independently; 3) learning to set up top rope anchors; 4) learning to sport lead, etc. We will use both the camp days and additional days to meet campers' top priority tasks. For instance, we can have a camper to join a sport lead course later to focuse on certain skills development.
